Six useful questionsDescribe what you need from robot cycle optimisation before choosing a solution
For repeatable production using robot-cell cycle-time improvement, share the normal condition, realistic range and difficult cases the finished system must handle.
Question 1Part, Product and Process Variation for Robot-Cell Cycle-Time Improvement
Describe the normal product and part range, tolerances and difficult examples, with current drawing or recipe revisions. Supply representative samples and the quality limits that any proposed cycle-time change must continue to meet.
Question 2Arrival Pattern and Presentation
Record how parts arrive and are presented, including variation, handling delays and replenishment. Share observations of normal and difficult conditions so the review can distinguish presentation constraints from robot-motion time.
Question 3Required Cycle and Production Pattern
Provide a record of the complete cycle, separating robot motion, process time, waits and interactions with other machines. State the required production pattern and accepted output, and include reliability rather than relying only on the shortest observed cycle.
Question 4Tooling, Sensing and Process Interfaces
Supply drawings and details of tooling, sensing, services and control interfaces. Identify upstream and downstream states, waits caused by connected equipment, and external dependencies that affect the complete process.
Question 5Operator Access, Recovery and Changeover
Map operator, cleaning, maintenance, recovery and changeover access, and describe the normal, difficult and fault scenarios. Include recovery and changeover in the production evidence, with proposed changes reviewed against the validated operating arrangement.
Question 6Run-Off Criteria and Production Evidence
Agree representative run-off conditions, the method, repetitions, acceptable range and result records. Define how product quality, accepted output and reliability will be assessed, who will review the evidence, and the documentation, training and controls needed for future changes.
